DinoBones Walkthrough & Beginner Guide
Quick answer
Start here: identify unknown bones, assemble all 9 skeletons, use Museum / Tab progress, unlock helpers, and keep saves and achievements synced.
Start with the museum loop: collect unknown bones, identify which exhibit they belong to, place them in the correct skeleton slot, then use the museum progress view to decide what is still missing.
Beginner route
- Open boxes and loose piles, then pick up a bone.
- Take it to the matching exhibit and watch the placement feedback.
- Use the Museum / Tab progress view before assuming a secret item is a missing bone.
- Work one nearly complete skeleton at a time when the museum starts to feel crowded.
- Record missing body sections in the checklist instead of sweeping the same floor area without a note.
- After all 9 skeletons are complete, separate ending progress from 100% cleanup.
What to do first
The safest first goal is not a perfect route. Place enough correct bones to learn each exhibit's color, texture, scale, and body-shape cues. Steam describes the game as identifying, collecting, and assembling scattered dinosaur bones, while the achievement list confirms that placing at least one bone in each of the nine exhibits is its own milestone.
Museum / Tab progress
Use Museum / Tab progress as the deciding source for skeleton completion. If a display is short of 100%, write down the exhibit and likely body section, then search with that note in mind. If the thing you found is a coin, cassette, snow globe, camera, model piece, or garden task, treat it as 100% cleanup rather than a missing bone.
Carrier repair and helpers
Community walkthroughs describe several exhibit-linked helper moments, including the Brachiosaurus hammer, Triceratops watering can, Pteranodon glider, Parasaurolophus cassettes, Kentrosaurus coin press, and Pachycephalosaurus camera. Treat these as community-confirmed guide notes until your own playthrough or screenshots verify the exact trigger.
Difficulty and modes
The October 3 update added gameplay rule choices for a new save. Free Order Mode keeps relaxed bone placement. Anatomical Mode asks for a stricter spine-first flow. Proximity Hint changes how much the placement hologram helps you, and the Expertise window can be hidden with Z.
Save & achievement recovery
If achievements did not unlock, start the game while connected to Steam and wait at the main menu. Official update notes say the game checks your save against your Steam profile and can add missing achievements there. The same post also introduced three save slots and save recovery changes for offline or disconnected sessions.
When to chase tools before final bones
If a skeleton is nearly complete and the missing piece is tiny, stop and check whether a helper or progress tool is available for that exhibit. Community guides mention later assistance for difficult pieces, but exact timing and every last-bone location should stay in your notes until verified.
Ending versus 100%
Completing all 9 skeletons is not the same as full completion. Steam achievements also track all nine souvenir coins in the album, all nine cassettes at their matching kiosks, photos of completed exhibits, and combined cleanup for The Curator's Signature.
